Skully Closes Out the Christmas Category
I have my Christmas “obligations” completed! That’s the way it seems to be in adulthood. “Obligations” rather than cheer and good fun. Back in the day there was excitement and joyous revelry. Expectations and wonder. Now after 45 years of life everything seems to have slowed except for those dammed hands on the unmerciful clock and the squares on the calendar. The years drift by like so many dandelion seeds in the wind.
BITCH, ain’t it?
It doesn’t have to be that way though. Those who truly love us don’t give a rat’s ass whether or not we got them the right sized sweater or the correct version of the software. They take joy in seeing us happy, plain and simple. Our happiness makes happiness for them. How’s that for a danger of a rip in the space-time continuum?
It doesn’t matter if it is a tight knit fambly having the best gathering ever in the 5000 square foot house in the Hamptons or two bums sharing a fifth of Popov by a fire in the shelter of an industrial sized dumpster. It is just time to relax and unpin our shoulders from our ear lobes and say FUCK IT! I’m only going to worry about the air going in and out of my lungs and those near me RIGHT NOW.
Most of us get less than 100 Christmas and New Years holidays. Some only get 5 or 10 or 50. Which one is this for me? I sure as hell ain’t gonna waste it on worrying if my tie goes with my farkin’ shirt!
Everyone be well! If you can’t be well, at least take a second to take one breath and taste life.
For those of us who have it made, like myself.
Party yer ass off!! But remember that the party is a great gift to be savored.
Wonderful wishes to one and all,
Skully
There wasn’t much mocking going on there, but it was well said nonetheless. Happy holidays everyone and be safe out there.
Well said. Some petty BS between some members of my family was finally put to rest and I enjoyed having them all together and happy.
Next up is amateur night. Everyone keep your wits about you on New Year’s Eve. Have fun but come back safely.
Then it’s the long, grey slog through Winter. It SUCKS!!1
That, was very well said, sir. I am starting a Take Back Your Holidays Day…
I hear a lot of “We have to…” in connection with the Holidays. We have to go here, do this, buy this, eat this….Because, what? You HAVE to? Who decides this?
And what is UP with this needing to BE somewhere for the Holiday because if you are not you will be depressed? Huh?
We’ve been bombarded with Xmas music since October. Walmart takes DOWN the Halloween things a few days before Halloween and puts up the Christmas things. People have gone nuts getting up at 5:00am for Black Friday sales.
You HAVE to decorate your house a certain way, you HAVE to buy for people, you HAVE to send cards.
Do you ever hear yourself saying “I get so stressed and worn out, there is so much I HAVE to do” “I get really depressed at the Holidays” or “I feel so guilty if I don’t..”
Get over it. No one can make you feel anything, you are the one taking that on.
If you find yourself saying this season “I/we don’t want to go…., but we have to” Stop one second. If you don’t want to, don’t. Take back the YOU. What DO you want to do? Is your family going to be, whatever, if you don’t do something? Well, get this, they need to take you as you. If you don’t want to, don’t.
Today isn’t the day to be thankful for what you have. You should be waking up EVERY day thinking about that. Xmas is not the day you show the people you love how much you care abut them. You should be doing that EVERY day. All the time. And not by buying them something they don’t need.
Have the Holiday when you want it. You don’t HAVE to have it on a specific day. Make it work for you, and for God’s sake do what you WANT to do. What makes you happy.
If you are feeling guilty about that, think real hard, you have some work to do.
Rant over.
Thanks for reading!
